A Call Center As A Customer Service Representative
I work at a call center as a customer service representative. We usually donââ¬â¢t have teams created to be able to finish a common goal. Instead, we are given certain time restrictions such as call time, call waiting time, and even breaks. Our supervisor had brought before us that her supervisors and the company vice president wanted us to be able to cut down call times to be able to increase our monthly numbers. The actual issue was that we were understaffed, poorly compensated, and had a loss of autonomy that took its toll on the work environment. Many of my coworkers felt that change was needed and it seemed that the higher ups also felt that way. The company instead opted to listen to our concern as well as create a team effort to attempt to gather information on our concerns. Our supervisor took us into the conference room, which is not all that pleasant. Itââ¬â¢s a simple room with white walls and no decoration of any kind. It just had a table and seats around it. Once we were informed of the situation and the limited agents we had available in the customer service department, we began to think and process information as a team. Looking back at that interaction I can definitely feel that we lacked in describing and analyzing the problem. My coworkers and I felt that we had lost a team morale, loss of autonomy, and being short staffed. Our boss and the higher ups in the company believed that we werenââ¬â¢t being restricted enough or maybe needed better equipment. They didnââ¬â¢tShow MoreRelatedCustomer Service Call Center Representative832 Words à |à 4 Pagesââ¬Å"Craigslistâ⬠on an open position for a Customer Service Call Center Representative. What Is A Startup - 956 Words
What Is a Startup? The word ââ¬Å"startupâ⬠has become ubiquitous in American vocabulary. However, there is really no common understanding of the definition. Wikipedia defines a startup as ââ¬Å"an entrepreneurial venture, typically describing newly emerged, fast-growing business.â⬠Yet, if you look further, youââ¬â¢ll find that different people mean radically different things when they use the term. Some people define a startup simply as a newly registered firm with at least one employee, the founder. However, many also include the attribute of scalability to the definition. Others only consider businesses that develop software or produce hardware businesses as startups. So, why do we care that there are various ways the word ââ¬Å"startupâ⬠is used? Well, since there are so many conflicting definitions, it s difficult to keep everyone on the same page when you re discussing economic policy issues related to startups. The reality is that a startup is temporary status applied to all business ventures when they re looking for a viable business and economic model. For example, no one can argue that the brand new mini-cupcakes shop or self-serve frozen yogurt stand that popped up around the corner aren t startups, at least not until they prove they are viable. I portend that a startup is any business that has not yet reached profitability at which point they loose their status as a startup and are in fact a business. Heinz Ketchup free essay sample
Heinz was experiencing a significant issue with its strategy in term of distributing their product to a retailer that shelves not only Heinzââ¬â¢s product but their own as well. The retailers have a commanding role in placing Heinz products alongside the in-house ketchup they make as well as other brands. This creates a significant problem for Heinz in terms of maximizing profits by increasing sales since the retailer is not only concerned about Heinz but also concerned about the private label it sells itself. Heinz sees a benefit in selling the larger bottles of ketchup but the retailers see that as a threat to its own brand and therefore creates a conflict of interest. List any outside concepts that can be applied: A company such as Heinz needs to strategically set their prices keeping in mind historical data relevant to its consumers and at the same time have enough margin for the retailers that are shelving their product. We will write a custom essay sample on Heinz Ketchup or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page There are different avenues that Heinz could primarily take in order to alleviate itself from any discrepancy through price setting that could arise from the retailer and/or the consumer. Cost-based pricing: This method of pricing is contingent upon accounting data and keeps the Return On Investment (ROI) in mind when setting prices. Typically, cost-based price approaches are cost-plus pricing, target return pricing, markup pricing or breakeven pricing. Competition-based pricing: This can be simply stated as the prices are being set with keeping in view what price tag the competition are putting up on their products. Customer value-based pricing: In this method of price setting value-based pricing is given significance. The perceived customer value of the product has leverage in price setting and therefore the price revolves around how a company such as Heinz could increase customer value. This method of price setting for a commodity such as Heinz ketchup could be an intricate issue for the company. Heinz understood that it needed to add value to customers by innovating their product, creating shared value but keeping in mind what the after affects could be of price. Heinz created an upside down bottle which pioneered the way consumers used bottles. They also introduced bottles that were packaged to cater the needs of those households or businesses that saw more value for their dollar. Heinz also promoted their products through price promotions for selective products, however this created a significant marketing problem. Heinz cannot simply compete solely on price as there are other variables such as differentiation and customer value creation as well. In efforts to create shared value, research into customer needs can be leveraged in order for Heinz to differentiate itself. This could create a pull strategy which would assist Heinz in creating an arsenal against the retail channel. List relevant qualitative data: -Regardless of its market share which created a leadership position for Heinz, it was experiencing three years of reduced operating income. -Heinz ketchup was an innovative product that has dominated and controlled the ketchup industry since 1960. -Since ketchup was able to have a significant shelf life consumers often bought more in anticipation of need. List relevant quantitative data: -Heinz experienced consumers shifting from the 24oz. bottle to the twin 50oz. bottles. -Heinz had $100 million in sales from the 15 brands out of which ketchup sales attributed to 30% -More than 47% of consumers that bought ketchup had a bottle of Heinz at their residence. Describe the results of your analysis: Heinz was a favorable brand to consumers; however the issue lied within Heinzââ¬â¢s retail strategy. The retailers created a conflict of interest while working with Heinz. These retailers had private label products of their own which were being shelved alongside Heinz. In essence, these retailers were controlling their in-house product as well as Heinz, which was inevitably going to create an issue. The retailers had control over not only their own product but their competitors as well. This put Heinz in a bad predicament simply because Heinz could not leverage retailers. Instead it was offering them trade deals and was cutting into its wholesale prices to get some sort of a marketing edge at the retail level. This meant that Heinz before it even came on the retailersââ¬â¢ shelves had fierce competition, had its margins reduced which had a direct impact on its profitability. Heinz understood that it needed to undercut the competition and introduced trade promotions which were effective but consumers and the retailers were smart. The consumers waited for periodic sales of the Red Rocket and retailers received allowances to compensate the margin compression. Introducing a larger product size or bundling two same products would require larger shelf space and the retailer was not ready to give that up that easily. Even if some of these retailers were to consider allotting Heinz more space they would ask for slotting allowances. Describe alternative action: -Heinz could just follow the course it has been on for the last so many years and not create any conflict with its retailers. -A sense of shared value needs to be created to be able to effectively sell Heinz ketchup in light of the strict competition and smart consumers. Therefore, in efforts to link other brands of Heinz can pave the way in creating awareness. Heinz could bundle other products with their ketchup by putting a coupon on the 24 oz. bottle for Worcestershire sauce. -For every bottle of Heinz that is bought, 1% of the profit margin will be donated to charities that the retailer sponsors and matches it. -Make the Heinz ketchup with the lowest margin to be more efficient by cutting costs in terms of manufacturing it until it is shelved in the retailersââ¬â¢ store. -Create a line of Heinz ketchup that is organic and gravitate to those consumers that are health conscious and willing to pay for a product that has fewer preservatives. Describe your action plan: The consumer, retailer and the manufacturer need to understand and promote shared value that could spark the interest of all the parties involved in the buying process. This can discourage significant challenges which can present themselves to not only the retailer but the manufacturer as well. Heinz needs to take necessary steps towards crafting a promotion that not only encourages referrals but promotes the brand and builds loyalty. Therefore, if I was to be given the above choices in alternative action I would push shared value in efforts to create a common goal for the retailer, consumer and the manufacturer. In option two the advantage would be that if the consumer was in need to buy ketchup s/he would see promotions of its 24oz. bottle and have a coupon for other sauces it sells. It could potentially also educate the consumer that the bigger the bottle or bundled package ketchup the higher the value of the coupon. However, if in the case the bigger ketchup package or bundle is not available on the shelves they could ask the retailer to get it and make the retailer realize the potential it has in gaining value.

Ladies Of Missalonghi Essays - Novellas, The Ladies Of Missalonghi
Ladies Of Missalonghi The author of the book, The Ladies of Missalonghi, by Colleen McCullough describes to the reader how Missy, an unattractive woman, in a small town differs from Alicia. Missy, the daughter of Drusilla did not really have any self-confidence in herself. She would begin by wondering what she really looked like. The house owned only one mirror, in the bathroom, and it was forbidden to stand and gaze at one's reflection. Thus Missy's impressions of herself were hedged with guilt that she might have stayed too long gazing. Oh, she knew she was quite tall, she knew she was far too thin, she knew her hair was straight and dark, that her eyes were black-brown, and her nose sadly out of kilter due to a fall as a child. She knew her mouth drooped down at its left corner and twisted up at its right, but she didn't know how this made her rare smiles fascinating and her normal solemn expression a clown like tragicomedy(Pg.35-36). Missy didn't really pay close attention to what she really looked liked. It didn't matter how women appeared in those days as how it does today. They seem to think that it's evil to look at oneself in the mirror, and that it's forbidden for a woman to look at her own image. Life had taught her to think of herself as a very homely person, yet something in her refused to believe that entirely, would not be convinced by any amount of logical evidence. So each night she would wonder what she looked like(Pg.36). She knew what she really looked like, but her conscious was telling her different. It was like she had something in her that was really setting her apart from her family and friends. Even in her mid-twenties she was still treated unfairly. Her mother looked down at her and did not appreciate any of the things that she did. Any pip-dreams Drusilla might have harboured about Missy's growing up to snatch the ladies of Missalonghi out of penury via a spectacular marriage died before Missy turned then; she was always homely and unprepossessing(Pg. 39). What her mother pictured Missy to be had been vanished when Missy was about ten. Her mother lost fate in her before she even had a chance to prove her decency. Missy also was living in her own fantasy world. Her mother was against her from reading romance books because it was a sin to know about love. She was shatter inside for she felt she will never experience love, thus this made her even more interested in romance and love. She also grew up into a family where love was evil and bad. She also never felt that intimate passion that she always wanted to feel. Her mother may have made her believe in other things that was n't true, but she wasn't going to abide by it. Missy felt that she was in-slaved by her mother and her aunts. Her mother made her do all the chores even when she was so sick that she couldn't move out of bed. When she got so sick and fainted, her mother and aunt were worrying about who was going to do the chores. She was like Cinderella who was left behind to clean and do everything. Even when she left the house to go get something, she always thought about milking the cows and that she had to hurry back before her mother would get mad at her. She had such a big responsibility that she didn't have any time for anyone, not even for her self to enjoy. Oh let it not be brown! Prayed Missy. I want a scarlet dress! A lace dress in the sort of red that makes your eyes swim when you look t its that's what I want!?brown, Drusilla finished at last, and sighed(Pg.51). She wanted a brown dress out of all the colors she had to pick from. She always felt that she matched brown best aside from other colors. The color brown which made her figur e even more darken, is the color that she liked best. I understand how disappointing this must be, but the truth of the matter

Under Armour (Case 26) Essays
Under Armour (Case 26) Essays Under Armour (Case 26) Essay Under Armour (Case 26) Essay Student 9/23/13 Under Armour (Case 26) Technological Hot and sweaty t-shirts are a thing of the past. New and innovative material for making clothing has changed the game for sports apparel. Now, high-tech fibers are woven into shorts, shirts, Jackets and more that can adapt to and regulate the bodys temperature. This advancement is huge for athletes of all kinds, allowing increased performance and endurance. New water-resistant material and fibers that prevent ultraviolet and infrared rays are among the long list of technological advancements taking place in the sports apparel industry. Demographics Performance sports apparel has not always been so widespread. It started off as being primarily utilized by major sports teams, but over the recent years the market has extended to accommodate nearly all sporting activities. Not only are all of the major sports teams using some sort of performance apparel but also active lifestyle consumers and youths. Research has shown that nearly 80% of activewear is worn for non-sports activities. Another study determined that more than 85% of athletic footwear is being used for a different sport other than what they were made for. Only sports teams and sporting activities used sporting apparel until recently. Now sporting apparel extends to men, women and children of all shapes, sizes and walks of life. Economics The sports apparel industry has grown exponentially in the past few years mainly due to heavy marketing and advertising, technological advancements and a vast catalog of new items in new product categories. The ever-prolific sporting world has seen consist Political/Legal Large companies in this industry must stay up to date with the most modern clothing ine and accessories in order to be competitive. With new products and materials come legalities to maintain dominance over specific innovations. Outsourcing production and manufacturing also plays a huge role in legal policys and political conflicts. Sociocultural and Global Climate has a big effect on when, where and how often you can exercise or train. With innovative clothing lines that can repel water, prevent harmful rays from the sun and moderate body temperature, come new possibilities to train anywhere, anytime and for longer periods of time. And sports apparel is available to all who seek increased pertormance. Porters Five Forces Modelâ⬠Apparel Supplier Power (High) Businesses in the performance apparel industry establish credibility with their suppliers. The suppliers use new and technologically advanced materials and create highly differentiated products; thus, giving them more power over their buyers. Barriers to Entry (High) A few very large sports apparel companies, i. e. Under Armour, Nike, Adidas, Columbia, that have been well established for many years dominate the market. Over he years, the larger companies have been able to establish themselves through brand recognition, advertising and various distribution channels. Thus, a company trying to start off in this industry would struggle initially but could profit in the long run due to fewer competitors. Competitive Rivalry (Moderate) The large companies are constantly inventing or reinventing their product lines depending on the consumer market and modern design. Due to a large degree of differentiation in performance and quality, there is less rivalry among performance apparel businesses. Threat of Substitutes (Moderate) There are a few substitutes when it comes to performance apparel. Only a few have been at the cutting edge of technological advancement and quality enhancement by which they have established themselves as being among the top leaders for quality and performance. However, there is still a major threat of substitution for cheaper alternatives if the economy were to weaken. Buyer Power (High) Customer buying power for apparel is strong due in part to the availability to switch to other products at little, if any, cost, but mostly due to the percent of revenue that he large companies sell from their individual product segments. If a company has a large percentage in a single product category, they are more vulnerable than a company that has a well-diversified combination of products. Competitive Analysis Under Armour has several large competitors; the largest being Nike, Adidas and Columbia Sportswear. These companies are similar in that they all stress product innovation, advertising and sponsorships. Adidas is broadly focused in all sporting categories but fails to stand out. Columbia is known almost solely by its winter gear, imiting its growth potential and creating strong seasonality trends. Nike strives to be the best in every segment while Under Armours goal is to be a leader in each process of its product development, concentrating on quality over quantity. An advantage for Under Armour is that it is focused more on improving its brand and unique products, licensing o ther items and accessories manufacturers. Internal Analysis through independent Under Armour is continually improving their apparel line and broadening there market. The company has been growing at a substantial rate, 30. annually over a 5-year period, largely due to the ambition of Kevin Plank, founder, and also to heavy marketing and promotions. Plank attributes the success of the company to brand recognition and the ability to market to all consumers. Under Armour makes head- to-toe apparel for anyone during any season. It has pushed its image into as many stores as it can, reaching college universities and numerous distribution channels. Suggestions to the Firm Over 80% of Under Armours revenue comes from the sale of its apparel line. While it eans that it has been very successful in this segment, there needs to be more diversity to increase competitiveness and decrease supplier power. While creating a footwear line will aid in Under Armours aim to create a full apparel product line and increase the pressure on competitors, many challenges will need to be overcome in order to penetrate this product market. Under Armour will need to reinvent and reengineer its footwear line. Alternative Strategies Expanding the product line to diversify its product portfolio may dilute Under Armours image and label thus causing consumers to deviate from premium-priced products. Alternatively, Under Armour could focus more primarily on the development of its footwear product and increase those sales. This option will be very costly and challenging due to the huge market players that already have dominance in footwear, i. e. Nike and Adidas. I suggest Under Armour pursue other product opportunities as well as the footwear to put more pressure on its competitors and to keep the focus on quality and performance rather than quantity.

CS - Coursework Example Chapter 1 of Neubauer and Fradellaââ¬â¢s book examines the controversy in courts and crime that is brought about by change. The controversy in courts and crime is also atrributable to the extensive attention to law by the media. This extensive media attention on courts and crime has its merits and shortcomings. Neubauer and Fradella argue that, media coverage of fictitous and real trials offers a suggestions that the oucome of decisions in courts is influenced by peopleââ¬â¢s actions, law as it is-by the books-, and law in controversy (5). This clearly helps illustrate how dynamic courts and the criminal justice system is dynamic. This book offers a substantial argument that, the U.S criminal justice system is heavily dependent on the courts, which, arguably play a pivotal role. Court decisions, actions, and process affect or have important consequences on the other components-the police and corrections personnel-of the criminal justice system (8). Likewise, the actions and operations of the corrections department and law enforcement have important consequences on the judiciary. Despite this obvious i nterdependence of these compononents of the criminal justice system, Neubauer and Fradella, concede and argue that, conflicts and tensions exist. Reading Chapter 1 of Americaââ¬â¢s Courts and the Criminal Justice System, gives one a sense of how or what it is like to be an actor of the court-a prosecutor, juror, judge or a defense attorney. This makes it easy for a lay man to understand the process and role in brininging a case throught the court system. Defend or criticize the claim, There is no significant moral Essay
Defend or criticize the claim, There is no significant moral difference between killing and letting die - Essay Example On the other hand, many argue that there is no significant moral difference between these two actions that bring about death. Choosing not to act and ignore is an action itself, and that puts the responsibility of the end result on the person. Therefore, there is no moral difference between killing and letting die, but in some cases active euthanasia is preferred. Considering the limited resources available, the letting die part can be justified. There will always be people who will die naturally or unnaturally. Nobody can escape from death, and so everybody would have to go through it someday. Those who die because of some disease there is a relevant and a genuine explanation for that. Some people will embrace death because the available sources are not enough to save them. Spending huge amount of time to save those whose injuries and diseases are so fatal that it is certain that they will die would be useless. Considering this bitter reality consuming resources for those who have no hope of surviving would be a waste. It would be better to divert these resources to someone who has a hope of surviving. The term passive euthanasia describes this approach of allocating resources to those who have a better chance of living. There is some difference between killing and letting to die. Killing is an action that involves activating the process of death and the events that lead to death. However, letting someone die is different as it involves refraining from any further actions to save the person who is already counting his last breaths leading to his death. So in this manner a person is not killed by human hands but dies of a natural phenomenon. Apparently, there doesnââ¬â¢t seem to be a difference between passive and active euthanasia. Deciding to withdraw from treating the patient is almost equal to injecting the patient with a
